Two new things

Small things, but amazing to us.
Yesterday DS2 came into the kitchen naked from waist down (not unusual!) I said to him 'DS2 bring me your trousers'. Off he went. DH and I looked at each other, I smiled and said 'He'll forget by the time he gets there, or he'll be distracted by the TV'. Next moment, DS2 reappears carrying trousers and nappy.

This is the first time he's EVER brought something to us on request from another room. And he had to walk through two rooms to get there, not be sidetracked by Fireman Sam, come back and give the trousers to the right person.

Then today we were in a toy shop. He picked a football out of a big wire basket, bounced it to DH, said 'ball, ball', then held his arms out and said 'catch'. We were so excited (didn't realise quite how much until the manager came up the stairs, obviously to check on who was making the strange shrieking noises ).

No-one in RL (except family) would understand how important these things are - but I know you lot will!

well done ds2. I'm very impressed by his bringing his trousers back - dd1 is very good at finding things, but can't quite mke the connection to bringing them back to the person asking. That's brilliant

That's fantastic Sphil. I love people sharing the Dc's achievements.

My Ds has also made some gains recently; he has learned to jump and do actions to "if your happy and you know it".

moira199 · 13/01/2008 19:23

Congratulations ! You feel like you have won the lottery 10 times over when these developmental spurts jump out at you. Saying 'Catch' is brilliant as he is using language to initiate a 'to and fro' game.

My DS asked me for cake this morning (8.30 am) and I said 'No, you didn't eat your toast at breakfast time. You can eat that if you are hungry' I was not expecting anything to happen except more requests for cake but he went to the table and ate the 2 slices of cold toast.

Fabulous

DS3 put his shorts on this morning- not on request (school shorts, was desperate to be off ), and although ic ouldn't get a repeat it ws Wow!

sphil · 13/01/2008 20:53

Oh, the jumping is good! DS2 still can't jump of his own accord when asked to do so, but is perfectly able to jump up and down endlessly in front of the TV! He tries to jump when asked but just does this odd little bobbing movement.

at the cake and shorts too. That's a very long sentence for your DS to follow Moira - I'm impressed! Did he get cake afterwards?

Yes He got some raspberry sponge cake. I really was surprised he ate the toast but it's hard to know if he really understood the whole sentence or was just responding to the word toast. But anyway, normally he would just have gone on repeating 'cake cake cake'
