We have been on a waiting list for months and they have just phoned to say we are getting to the top of the list and just wondered what to expect.

I asked the same question a while back here .

In our case, the clinical pyschologist spent about 2h assessing Ds2. She was partly trying to determine his level at different tasks so she gave him things to do such as games and puzzles, things from the Griffiths development tests (like boxes to fit together etc). She also talked to him and obviously a lot to me. She was also trying to determine whether he was on the autistic spectrum so we talked about that quite a lot and she did a few things like seeing if he would recognise himself in a mirror.

I also suspect she watched us a bit in the waiting room before we started!

I took a huge bag of supplies including about 10 jigsaws which my ds2 loves and food and drink, but I didn't need most of it in the end. It is good to have something to keep your child busy while you talk. Generally I found it quite good and felt she got a good picture of Ds2 although I guess that depends on the pyschologist. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck .
