School had asked me to get ds assessed for adhd for behaviour issues. Both nhs and private rejected it all before any assessment based on initial forms and quick chat but both said maybe go down the route of autism. The private psychiatrist we spoke to yesterday had both me and my son there at the same time so my son now knows everything which I was keeping from him before as felt that she would struggle with processing all these possibilities which is exactly what’s happening now. Has million and one questions and can’t stop talking about it. I can tell his emotions are all over the place. I honestly not sure if we should dig deep into this to make things worse. Feel a bit disheartened by all this when first I thought going through this can only be a good thing…

I absolutely hate the way that professionals ask parents to discuss their kids' difficulties in front of them - again and again and again. I try to avoid taking DS to that part of the meeting - sometimes it means that DH has to come to mind DS nearby and then they just turn up for the bit of the meeting that he has to. Would your DS be able to get the hang of this being different types of neurodiversity and they are all linked together? If he needs certainty tell him he is definitely "neurodiverse" and the doctors will help you to figure out which type (or probably types) he might be. It is usually not just one flavour! Plus if it is Autism then he will get to join Spectrum Gaming which would be cool :)

thank you for your lovely message Knottyauty. It brought tears to my eyes. Yes I will look into being neurodiverse. I’m sure he would love to know and learn some clever well known people with autism. Will try and focus on the positives rather than the negative. At the same time I try and not talk too much about it as it’s only a possibility at the minute

Aww bless you - it is a very emotional process so be gentle on yourself.
