Moving schools mid-term

Hi there!

Wondered if anyone had experience moving their child mid-term to a special school?

My DD is autistic with learning difficulties and has had a shocking time at mainstream primary school with this year (Y6) being the absolute worst. She has an EHCP in place and is going to a special needs secondary which will be more suited to her.

This term she's been assaulted twice by girls in her class. Needless to say I have called the police and rained fire on the school, but everything that I've done doesn't seem to have changed anything. My DD is losing her light and it's totally heartbreaking to witness.

I want her out of there for the remainder of this academic year, but am not in a position where I can give up my work. We only have a few months left, what is the likelihood of a school accepting a new pupil so late in the day?

Thank you x

A move to a SS at this stage is unlikely. You would have to ask for an early review and even if the LA agree (they may not), by the time it is held and then the LA amend (or not) term would be over.

What is more likely is DD spending an increasing amount of time at the secondary school she will be going to as part of her transition.

If DD cannot attend school the LA have a duty to provide alternative arrangements but I’m not sure this is going to solve your problems.

Thank you so much for that. I did think that it would be unlikely, but always worth asking the question. I'm hoping she'll be able to spend more time at the new secondary school through the transition period.

The school aren't taking these occurrences seriously enough as they keep happening. For violence against an SEN student you'd think suspension would be considered, but it's really low level punishments like not being able to be in the playground / on the play equipment, which I don't think is enough of a deterrent (hence me calling police).
