her first pair

we didn't know if she would ever graduate from her frame to crutches, ever, but her physio thinks she is ready to try them

she was really quite stable for a first try

keep your fingers crossed not just for her, but for us being possibly, at some time in the future, being relieved of the difficulty of trying to take a wheelchair and a walking frame and a little sister out all at the same time

it is an exciting time for us

Fantastic!

Well done little Capp - hope she just gets better and better with them!

Wow Cappuccino - that's fantastic!

Well done, Missyccino!

I bet (hope) she will go from strength to strength as her confidence and skill with the new crutches increase - and also builds a little strength in the arm muscles she uses for the new crutches. My fingers are crossed and my thoughts are with you!

oh Blu she does not need arm muscles

she has spent the last five years hoiking herself up onto her frame with her arms and kind of toe-ing herself along - all her bodyweight is on her arms

she is dangerous in a fist-fight

I shall be watching out for her in the women's shott putt in the Olympics, then!

that is such good news capp,
i remember the day when i went outwith my two- no wheels, no buggy and no nappy bag- i felt liberated and so proud to be able to walk like other families, side by side and chatting....it's the smallthings that count isn't it
give your big smiley girl a well done from us too xx

Cappuccino · 11/01/2008 09:54

chatee yes it is the small things

I am delighted for her; but what breaks my heart a bit is that I can never hold her hand when we are out because she needs both of them

when dd2 started holding my hand I was stunned at how lovely it is; it is such a small thing for most parents

yes, i know what you mean about holding hands- ds just does it, sort of naturally with his hand nicely curled into mine whereas dd just didn't(and still doesn't if not reminded) know how to do it and just expects you to have a firm grip of her hand or she stabs her nails into the soft part of your hand or she squeezes the blood out of your fingers-so it just isn't a nice easy ds sort of way holding your hand but it is now nice to be at least able to have the opportunity
you never know your dd might be able to manage one day just walking with holding your hand(fingers crossed but not squeezed eh!)

Cappuccino · 11/01/2008 10:03

oh god yes the squeezing

and the nails

and when she grabs onto my leg for balance

owowow
