Adhd medication

Has anyone found that medication has helped with angry/violent outbursts and general impulsiveness around emotions.
Doctor told me medication would only help with concentration but I’m not sure that’s completely correct.
Ds also has autism so not sure how much is even related to his adhd.

Yes!! Our six nearly seven year old is on Medikanet and it is helped with everything. He is much more rational, isn’t so impulsive and just easier to handle. It does help him a lot at school.

You can start at a low dose and build up.

My 8 year old has been on methylphenidate for the past 7 months. It’s not helped with his angry emotional outbursts at all. In fact, Im sorry to say, I think they may have gotten worse!

So much so, CAMHS are thinking about adding something else into the mix / trialing something else.

(Ds also has autism / adhd combo.)

His special school say he accesses work more though on adhd medication. Which is something at least! Prior to medication he would do 10 minutes or so a DAY, spending the rest of the time in the sensory gym.

He can do 4 work activities now and has started sitting a few minutes for story time, able to interact with his peers for short bursts etc.

It’s not been the wonder we had hoped for, but his psychiatrist said that they expect a year of trial and error to come up with the best plan.

Another ADHD / ASD kid over here.

We found medicine definitely helped with meltdowns. I think it’s because it slows him down a bit so he isn’t so constantly overwhelmed he has a bit of breathing room to think through how to respond when things aren’t going his way, and not resort to violence or screaming.

We have had about a year of trial and error on various medications, which i won’t bore you with as it’s not your question and every child is different so what did didn’t work for my kid may not be same for yours.

Good luck x

Sorry to jump on this thread but seeing most of you will be in the ADHD boat (also started a thread on this) do you notice that your child struggles a lot less during sunny months?? (i suffer with SAD) My Ds struggles from sept-March then he is almost unrecognisable until September again. He is in yr5 and his teacher had asked me this year to take him for an assessment as she feels if this carries on he will struggle in seconfldary. His issues are impulsiveness and can be quite violent but as usual not had any issue with him since March.
he has his first assessment app next week and feel a bit uneasy bringing back the memories of when he struggles with his emotions but o guess it’s best to find out if he does or not
