Its a strange disorder, coz some children have no damage or a very small amount and have huge problems, or they can have a huge amount of damage and no problems.

mieow · 22/11/2004 14:40

and if I am right Lou33s DS has a small amount of damage, that wasn't seen till GOS had a look

Have heard that before just feel dificult about asking for the second opinion.
His physio has become fixated on the fact that he can ride his scooter.I guess i should point out to her that it has 4 wheels wont tip and we searched long and hard to find one that was safe and useable for him.
We just get well if he can ride a scooter trouble is he can't walk up stairs safely you tell me which is more important.

ask for a second option. They only have to look at the scans. You might not even have to go there. Ask them!

mieow · 22/11/2004 14:45

My DD2 scan was sent to GOS (I demanded a MRI on her because of the other 2 having CP) and they just looked at it and reported on it.

meea · 22/11/2004 14:46

I will his consultant is going to love me spent 25 minutes bending her ear back last week.

and a child with mild CP can ride a scooter FFS. GGRRRR

mieow · 22/11/2004 14:49

lol@ you bending her ear! Just say you ain't happy that no one can diagnose him and you wish to be referred to GOS. I was lucky that the consulant here couldn't work out what was wrong with DS and he referred us to GOS, where they diagnosed him in a hour, pending a MRI scan. With DD1 the local hospital was very fast on the uptake and dignosed her at 13 months

meea · 22/11/2004 14:56

When I mentioned the no diagnosis thing last week she said that it wasn't important .It was more important that he recieved the support he needs.Which is ok but the dx would make getting the support easier .Must go fetch the kids and go to meet the private physio.

exactly, you can't get a buggy because "there are children out there in more need" eg. got a diagnosis, and if he has a diagnosis of CP then at least you may get somewhere, plus its easier as its a regonised condition IYKWM, especially when you to do those blasted DLA forms

mieow · 22/11/2004 15:01

good luck with the Physio

can i ask a question to anyone with a major?

mine seems to tip really easily, is there any weights or anything that can make it more stable? or does having a basket make it more stable.

meaa I am pretty sure my dd was brain damaged at birth but her CT scan was clear. i am going to ask for an MRi, as 5 years on she still has no diagnosis.

lou33 · 22/11/2004 16:31

my ears are burning.....

fio, i never found anything like that, have you asked w/c services?

meea · 26/11/2004 19:59

Does anyone know how I can stop him getting wiplash when he falls asleep in it.
Bless him he fell asleep on the way home from sleep and he was all hunched over like a little old man.
Fio2 you can get pram weights sure I've seen them somewhere maybe in a magazine. What about those exercise weights that velcro around your ankles and arms.

fio2, The Great Little Trading Co. (www.gltc.co.uk) does 'tip-me-not stroller weights', £12.99 set of 2. Was thinking of trying them myself as I find the major tips easily although it is much better now I have the basket for underneath and tend to put my bag under there.

Meea, that's the other problem I have! How I wish it had a recline facility, even just a little would help. I tend to carry a little fleecy blanket that I fold up and put under his head so that he can lean sideways against the frame without getting a sore head. However, I know that you can get inserts that fit on to the seat to help with posture as I was sent them by mistake when I ordered the padded seat cover. I don't know if they would be any help. I was glad we didn't need them though as you have to take them off before you can fold up the buggy.

I have spoken to ot and they are going to have a look at him in it and make him some extra supports. It's ironic really as she wouldn't refer him to wheelchair services so we have had to buy it our selves but now he has one they are happy to make supports for the pushchair they said he didn't need.
Don't think I'll point that out to her though.
Well not until the supports are made anyway.Grin.
