we have a wheelchair adapted van. when it was set up dd was measured and her wheelchair was measured so it is all designed round her. the van is in her name(motability) the insurance covers her being in her wheelchair. so surely if i was to give some one else a lift in their wheelchair I wouldn't be covered.

Ooh I don't know, are you able to carry passengers normally? If so maybe? or would it be discriminating just because of the wheelchair?

i carry 5(including drive ) people plus a wheelchair. my question is if the van is dd's would it be covered if i used the wheelchair bit for someone else in a wheelchair?

yes you would be covered.

presumably the vehicle is registered in dd's name because it is a motobility vehicle, but the insurance is in your name . And under the insurance bit where it says "does the vehicle have any modifications" (or similar words) it would indicate that the vehicle has been adapted to carry a wheelchair. therefore, although it is dd's van and it is dd's wheelchair that is generally carried in it, you are the driver, and would be the insured driver regardless of what passengers you are carrying, iyswim?

thanks just don't tell my dad. i use it as an excuse not to take my sm in it. before you think i am mean. if you saw her in a wheelchair you would understand. it does not look safe.
