Child DLA renewal hospital letter

Hi
Our son has Autism, Adhd, sleep problems (all diagnosed - since he was 4,hes nearly 14 now.)
He currently gets HRC and LRM DLA, due for renewal in July this year.
We had a hosp appt with his ADHD consultant a few weeks ago and got the letter yesterday, it doesn't mention his autism, the doctor says his sleep is fine, and that he's doing well at school with his attention.

I wish it were true but the Dr has got practically everything wrong on the letter, I need the letter to go with his DLA renewal form but it won't go in our sons favour as it makes it sound like he has no real difficulties. It does say he's on Methylphenidate for his ADHD and Circadin to help with sleep.

Can anyone suggest anything? Would it be worth phoning the hospital, or does anyone have any advice?
Many thanks xx

Call the consultant’s secretary and ask for the letter to be corrected.

You don’t need a letter for a renewal , not sure who told you that.

I think the OP means she needs the letter as evidence, and while evidence isn’t mandatory it does help show a level of need. Recently there seems to be more cases being rejected because of a lack of evidence.

@Imitatingdory yes I know what she means but it’s a myth that sending a letter for a renewal will make a difference.

Thanks for the replies. I always try to send as much evidence in as possible and up to now our son always got his DLA with no problems. I'll call the secretary and see if she can help.

I don’t think that’s true, evidence of need still helps, although of course you don’t have to send evidence, but you can see by some of the posts on MN at the moment some renewals (as well as first claims and CoC) are being rejected because of a lack of evidence. Benefits and Work and Cerebra advise treating DLA renewals as you did the first claim, as previous evidence isn’t always looked at/considered.

ChildDLA I have always found consultant’s willing to correct clinic letters when it’s not accurate. Even without the DLA it is important for the clinic letter to accurately reflect DS’s needs.

I had something like the similar happen to me as our son’s had a paediatric assessment and was sent report and they reported he’s a good sleeper all through the night. My first thoughts was, where did they get that information? As no way in the world I would have said that as he’s a really unsettled sleeper due to various reasons. At his assessment they introduced me to his community nurse who would be checking in regularly with how he’s doing. So when she called recently she asked if I applied yet for child disability payment as were in Scotland. I raised my concerns about the incorrect information as she told me to send report as evidence and she was only too happy to issue me a more accurate report as she had been reviewing him regularly and Ive always mentioned about his sleep issues haven’t improved.

So I would definitely call his secretary and see if more accurate letter could be issued.
