Hi there,

my lo has just turned 2, and is in the process of being diagnosed with an asd. the problem at the moment is she seems to have recurring diahorea, every 4 to 6 weeks, which has been going on since she was about 7 months (been to docs loads about this, but they think I'm a crazy mama as it is!!). the latest bout has been going on since fri morn, and now her wee bot is raw! I can't seem to get it to clear up, and she goes nuts whenever I try to clean her bot, or put barrier cream on it.

would anyone have any ideas as to what I could do to help clear this up and help the soreness at the moment, I'm really at the end on my rope on this one!

any comments or advice would be greatly welcomed!

My Ds also has ASD and diarrhoea. Taking enzymes really did work for us. Stopped it completely for months. Just recently it came back for a week but seems to have gone again.

Gracefier have you tried more than one brand of enzymes? (I hope that doesnt sound patronising)

Aquarius Im really interested in Threelac. Isnt it very expensive?

Graciefer · 07/01/2008 18:44

We only tried Houston Enzymes, AFP Petizyde
and Zyme Prime.

Would you recommend a different brand?

staryeyed · 07/01/2008 19:11

I tried a few before finding one that suited Ds. We use one called Intenzyme forte which really works for our Ds. Its a generalised enzyme. We use peptizyde for any infractions of casein or gluten (when we used Peptizyde alone Ds had diarrhoea quite a lot).

Im not recommending Ds brand of enzyme but if money permits I would try quite a few out (Some companies let you buy trial size). Not saying it will work. Some people prefer probiotics- again what suits one child doesn't suit another. The thing with all these things is there are many products out there made form very different things and depending what our children's issues are its hard to find the one that suits. (Stop me if you know this all, Im just passing some of the stuff I have picked up form the biomed forums and my own experience)

We also take something called (hang on will find bottle)- permatrol which seems to buy ds1 and I some leway (bought it direct from BIBIC), managed ppizza tonight and no ill effects as yet....

Threelac is expensive Staryeyed, but I only use one sachet a day and it's the only thing that has ever worked. Am interested in your enzymes, is there a website? I find Threelac quite interesting because of the candida thing, as quite often I think that might be relevant to DS's irritable bowel syndrome

My enzymes are not miracle workers just the right thing for my Ds well it stops the diarreoh but Ds doesnt have normal poos they can be really toxic smelling and sometimes sticky.I dont think there is anyone product that will help all the digestive issues. The down side to Intenzyme Forte is they come in tablets which mean I have to crush them up and put them in Ds food. I get them from Nutri-linkltd.co.uk. they are about £10 for 90 tablets. I started with 1/2 (half) caps in one meal then built up until 1/2 on each meal. Now for big meals I use one.

The thing is Im looking for another enzyme because its such a pita to keep crushing them up. So I dont want to recommend and run IYSWIM.

My ds obviously has other issues yeast, possibly bacteria, which need to dealt with. That's why Im interested in Threelac and other products. Its been said before but its a puzzle with lots of pieces that need to be in place. I dont want to preach biomed on here because I know that some people are uncomfortable with it but it has really helped my Ds. Im researching loads of stuff at the moment. If anyone is interested I can point in the right direction.

Thanks Stary, will look at site. The only two things I give my DS are VegEPA fish oil (I prick them with knife and put in juice) and the sachet of Threelac - both bought via internet. I can't say for sure, but for my DS at least I think this combo has worked well for both his hyperness and his bowels. Crushing tabs into the juice would be easy, so I am ok as long as he keeps drinking it (downside: I still give him juice in a baby bottle at nearly 5 years old, but you can't have everything!). Agree that biomed is very subjective. Threelac is good because comes already in powder form, so I mix with bit of hot water and add juice. If you take one yourself, just straight, you can see that it "binds" you up a bit, which is maybe all my DS needs, but it also claims to eradicate/fight candida and yeast.

Hi,

I'm really interested in all that you have written up to this point I have avoided searching the internet for things relating to asd (didn't want to be constantly looking at DD and thinking 'well there is another thing' iyswim) but this has been a real eye opener!

Can someone please send some info on biomed stuff this way, and really anything else that might help. I really don't have much of a clue (only asked for lo to be refered at 18 months because at 13 months, she could say 15ish words, then overnight it was like someone had knocked them out of her head, and I had worked with a mum who noted this in her son)

Any help you guys could give would be an absolute blessing

Hel
