Hi

Deep down I have known my son has additional needs from a very early age. He was first of the pathway when he was 3 but dropping off the list due to being on the list for too long before getting an appointment. He was then referred again at 5 years old for the same result and now he is 7 and there is no way I am letting it go this time. As he is struggling much more as he gets older. He has sensory issues, severe anxiety and ocd, learning difficulties, suspected adhd. I am almost certain he is on the spectrum.
Without going into details our lives are very hard. He needs constant supervision from hurting himself. He struggles with self care and dressing himself. He has no awareness when outdoors and has to be held back from the road/people and dogs. His balance is poor and now he is becoming increasingly aggressive and angry with his meltdowns. He wets himself and the bed regularly. He is chewing through his clothes. I'm awake throughout the night. He masks alot at school as he fears being put in detention (he has actually been told if continues to cry and chew and touch everything he will be put in detention). He erupts at home. I am sometimes scared of his anger Life is hard. And I feel like I've been hitting so many walls with getting him support. However following complaints to several people I seem to be getting things moving now. Thank god!

Anyway the point of my post. I was encouraged to apply for DLA due to my son's ongoing daily struggles. I didnt realise I didn't need a diagnosis. However I do have lots of evidence to suggest additional needs, information from school and doctors, CAMHS and child psychiatrist etc. This has all been sent as evidence with his DLA application which was received 28th February 2022.

I know it will take a while to be processed but I was wondering how you know it's been logged? Do you receive a message or letter confirming its receipt? I'm not expecting a decision anytime soon just how do i know it's in their system?

Thank you for reading x

They will usually send you a letter saying they have received the forms. I would give it maybe 2 weeks and if you don't hear back then could always give them a call to confirm they received them.

Hi
You get a letter mine was received on the 17th of feb, so just a waiting game. I am applying for my son for pretty much the same things you have stated in your post. It’s hard I hope they see this x

It is just the wait now isn't it. I've seen it's taking months.
I'd be quite upset if it isn't award as I feel there is a real need. He is becoming such hard work. I'm most upset though that he is a danger to himself. It frightens me. I'm becoming more desperate for support but that feels like a battle too. I'm constantly telling everyone who are meant to be helping him that they are failing him. Because they are. I'm getting movement now as they know I'm not backing down but it all makes me so sad how much of a battle its been.
I hope you are successful with your claim x
