Could I hear from those whose child was diagnosed around this age and how it has affected/benefited them and if life has changed since.
Ds2 has always been gifted academically but struggled with social situations and we also struggled with behaviour at home.
A couple of years back we almost did start the process with gp but after talking to his then teacher who kept going back to how bright he is and how much he is able to communicate his feelings it’s probably just developmental and he will catch up.
His current teacher has a special needs child (also a not special needs child although she has not told me this ) and I feel she has taken him under her wings and has been brilliant but incidents have become very regular and today she had asked me how I would feel about getting him assessed. I agree that I would start the ball rolling as if he does have ADHD I would really like to get him the help before he starts secondary.
Does it ever happen that despite of what school thinks, the the professionals don’t agree with the diagnosis?

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
Also just waiting for health insurance details would anyone recommend going private to speed the process?

Bumping for you, my nephew is in a similar position. Now that DN is at the end of primary school, his behaviour has escalated and he’s in trouble more and more often. They are going to have a private assessment for him as NHS waiting lists are years long, but even then the private waiting list is quite long!
