Hello all. My son is 2 is is growing vey fast mainly in length rather than getting chubbier and I looked at him in his Quinny buzz and realised that we may not get much more use from it. Now Ive seen the Mclaren Major but wondered what other special needs pushchairs peoples use if they arnt too keen on the major.

I am seeing the OT in the New year but though Id ak you very knowledgable people about this also.

( can you tell im at work on xmas eve and doing anything to aviod any real work!!)

The mountain buggy is the only other one I have experiance of. Its wheels are fixed so its difficult to manouver. Also it has pnuematic tyers so risk of a puncture. You dont see many ot them and others about as the Maclaren major is the most popular, and probably the best anyway.

Hi,

I've got the Maclaren Major for my dd, but have seen some fab pushchairs on Ebay, and on websites like this www.specialneedspushchairs.co.uk/terrain_xl.htm

I believe that if your child is assessed as needing a wheelchair by a physio/wheelchair services department, and you don't want the usual Major buggy that they can give you a voucher towards the buggy that you prefer.

I went for a wheelchair cos dd needed more support than any SN buggy could do. And it also stopped the 'trying to guess if anything was wrong' stares.
Convaid Cruiser umbrella folds which can be handy but it depends on how much seating support he needs.

We've just got (literally just got, arrived today) the mountain buggy, from the site listed by deepbreath. They supply it with puncture-resist inner tube and kevlar tyre liners in off-road tyres. We've had the standard MB with that kit for the last 4 years - not had a puncture yet!

I, too am not keen on the Major. Totally personal choice - buggies are like cars I guess, it would be a dull ol' world if we all drove a Ford. It's just a shame there are so few options out there. At one extreme there is the Major (in any colour as long as it's black ). At the other there are frames costing £££££ because they support a vast range of postural supports and medical attachments which you may not need. There's not so much inbetween.

I think first stop is a referral to Wheelchair Services. OT will do this. Get them to do an assessment and find out how the system works locally. Some put money towards the wheels of your choice. Some supply directly but that restricts what you can have. Some do a sort of lease arrangement. They will also know what options are suitable for your DS and should be able to talk you through the pros and cons.
