Tax credits and restbite clubs

I’m hoping to get my children into a restbite club once a month (in the holidays once a week). My hubby works full time and I’m a carer to my 3 children with disabilities.
For all 3 each session is £75 so £25 each. Which is pretty expensive. Can I add this to my tax credits. I have just done a calculation and looks like I would get the extra tax credits to cover it. But is that classed as child care? It’s a holiday club and they also do Sen session. Also the sen school my kids go to do restbite clubs can I claim that as child care? Never thought about it before.
Thank you

To claim help with childcare costs it has to be an approved provider, ask the clubs.

For respite, have you had social care assessments for DC from the disabled children’s team and a carer’s assessment for you and looked at your local short breaks offer?

@Imitatingdory I don’t think social services really help here or would. I feel pretty on my own tbh. I’m just exhausted as school day I have to do all jobs (prep dinner/washing/lunches/cleaning) so I can give them all of me after school and even that isn’t enough. My daughter esp is very challenging. Although only 3 years behind in most areas she has massive meltdowns about anything! And will scream abs scream and then the neighbours get angry and make more noise to get us back…

I would try asking for social care assessments. Do DC have EHCPs?

ScottishTinydancer321 · 12/01/2022 10:20

Yes 2 do, and 1 being assessed. 2 eldest attend a Sen school (here you need ehcp). My sons at mainstream was for a full 1-1, he had a 1-1 at all times until he went to a Sen school.

Sorry, I missed you mention SS in your OP. Social care provision can be included in the EHCP. If you ever appeal SENDIST can look at social care provision.

Do they have OT and SALT provision, and any other therapies needed? Can you ask for a reassessment of needs if you don’t think the current support is enough?

The one being assessed, have they had a social care assessment as part of the EHCNA? Social care advice must be sought and “not known to the service” is not an acceptable response.

Thanks I honestly have no idea about the social part on a ehcp is it worth asking at their annual review.
My son still gets salt but from the school it’s on his plan. No ot but ehcp has ot recommendations but they work on these needs all the times. Both are under therapy at the school for mental health. Eldest is always having meltdowns at school throwing tables and chairs screaming. She is very much in her agenda and has little theory of mind and gets angry with other children etc. son masks at school and hides in the toilet a lot 🤦🏼‍♀️.

Don’t wait until the AR to ask for social care assessments.

It sounds like both DC need a reassessment of needs as the provision in their EHCPs isn’t meeting their needs. Both sound like they would benefit from OT, and DD sounds like she needs SALT. Do you think the school is the right setting?

ScottishTinydancer321 · 12/01/2022 11:33

@Imitatingdory sorry school is amazing what I mean is salt is within the school not nhs they have a onsite speech therapist which ds gets weekly. Dd doesn’t as her speech isn’t to bad but they do therapy within the class. Same as ot, the teacher does it, they have sensory room, breaks, swings trampolines etc.
Dd struggles with other kids that struggle she expects everyone to meet her needs even the kids 🤦🏼‍♀️.
