i went to ds,s school concert today with xdh and dd.

He was singing in the choir and he was right at the front and after he presented a gift to the boss of the organisation who runs the school.

i was already welling up but when the headteacher said "please bear in mind that some of these children have been out of school for a long time, it takes great courage for them to stand up here in front of strangers and sing" that was it i was gone!!!!

Then his care worker came up to me and said they had been doing CAT tests on him these past 2 weeks and that "he,s right up there,he,s the top of the class, he,s so intelligent and im extremely proud of him after everything he,s been through"

and dh said "so the 2 years out of school havent affected him academically then"?

and he said "no not at all he,s well on course for getting the highest marks in his SATS next spring"

im sooooooooooooo proud of him, this time last year he wouldnt come out of his bedroom, speak to people, he ate a very strict diet and now he,s eating curries roast dinners and spicy food i cant believe it!!!!!!

Oh Jenk, how wonderful
a truly "priceless" Christmas present!!!
I have followed your posts for a long time and know how hard you have fought to get the right provision for your DS.
He is very luck to have such a fab mum.

Merry Christmas to you and all the Jenk family

Oh, that's great news - all that hard work of yours has really paid off!

How did you get him to try the different sorts of food, or was it just a question of waiting until he felt ready?

jenk1 · 22/12/2007 17:01

we havent done anything re him trying new foods, when he first started he wouldnt eat anything but bread and butter for the first 6 weeks, i was on the phone more than once anxious and talking to his key worker and he was saying jen please dont worry, this is a settleing in period, its a big change for him and he is AS i guarantee you by xmas he,ll be eating everything.

yeh right, i thought.

on the last week before half term in oct they had told him to pick a meal from the menu (its like a restaurant, its really posh!!!) and he was crying but saying he wanted to do it and he ate canjun chicken.
we nearly fainted when he told us"!!!!!

since then he eats, curries, steak and kidney pie, roast dinners you name it.

He still insists on his 5 year old menu at home but thats ok cos hes eating really well at school, they just know how to reason and be with him, all have psychology degrees even the teaching asisstants and its just a really good school.

i want dd to go there but first we will have to go through all the crap of her failing in mainstream, she,s 10x worse than ds ever was but they only take them from year 3 and she doesnt start school til next september.
