Experiences of earlybird anyone?

DS3 has been referred by SALT to the Earlybird scheme (means yet another new SALT LOL but we're used to it)- it's dependant on a final written DX in January but SALT ahs asked Paed to confirm ASD and OT already has put that in a report so can't see anyissues there.

It's been mentioned before but what actually happens there? DS1 was too old by the time he got his DX and they seem to sneakily () plan the help! courses for when we're unable to attend.

I haven't done one myself but know a few people through our AS support group who've done Earlybird and found it very informative. Quite detailed as far as information is concerned, but maybe if you've been 'in the system' for a while before dx it might cover a lot of stuff you've worked out for yourself.

Have you done any of the help2 seminars? They're on specific subjects so you get a real in-depth session, topics such as anger management, bullying, sensory issues, writing social stories. Worth looking at NAS for when they're in your area.

We haven't been to any NAS stuff yet- ds3's dx seemed certain, then paed got cold feet and we weren't sure what it'd be- now we're back (quelle surprise!) with the ASD! DS1 is apparently about to get a befriender (or rather ahs been bumped to top of list due to imminent sibling arrival),

BTW nice to see you karen- haven't seen you about ion ages!

I went on one called Early Bird which was for parents only, not the child - fairly useful intro to all aspects of autism, good to meet other mums, but not absolutely vital I'd say, and lots of it I'd read or seen on internet already. Quite good for makign contacts in LEA though, and getting your face and name known

Well done on the driving test

Sounds hectic!

Any notes appreciated- hoping to do my MA in ASD this year (have been accepted its all finances now) but with baby in Amrch and ds3 getting his dx, well we'll see LOL- contrary to poular miconception I am decidedly NOT superwoman!

Does the ME always get worse in Winter or 'just' stress caused?

I'm on an earlybird course (earlybird plus-meaning parent Plus TA -but school can't free them to join me)
Is fantastic for meeting other parents and getting ideas for helping ds-also great for making contacts.
The best part is you have home visits from the people running the course and it gives you the chance to get help with individual problems you may have.
Would recommend it.
