I've been sent the "Cerebra Bulletin" today, and in it there is a review of a book called "Gifts: Mothers reflect on how children with Down Syndrome enrich their lives". I remember reading posts from parents of babies with Down Syndrome recently and thought it might be useful.
It's available to borrow from the Cerebra lending library.
Here's the synopsis:
"Gifts is a collection of stories by 63 mothers whose children have DS. It is honest and life-affirming, a chorus proclaiming that life is a gift and an extra chromosome isn't the end of the world.
Having a baby with DS is not something that most parents would willingly choose. Yet many who travel this path discover rich, unexpected rewards along the way. In this candid and poignant collection of personal stories, mothers describe the gifts of respect, strength, delight, perspective and love that their child has brought into their lives.
In her forward Martha Sears says: 'As eager as I am now to read and rejoice in each family's story I would have grabbed this book like a lifeline when Stephen was born, inhaling it for the courage and support it offers'."
