Hi has anyone been successful for HRC dla for your child who has severe autism and non verbal and has 1 to 1 support TA in school?

The criteria for HRC is help or supervision throughout both day and night, or being terminally ill, so not all DC who receive 1:1 in school will receive HRC.

As above, plus for a younger child, they will try to claim that broken nights are normal. They finally conceded, without argument, that regular 4am starts were out of the ordinary when Ds2 was 11.

I'm struggling so much day and night and that's why I need support financially and physically. With severe autism and developmental delay and non verbal and tantrums it's very difficult. His 1 to 1 supervises him a lot and says he needs constant care. Maybe I can get a letter from her to for my supporting documents for dla

As I have replied to you on other threads, I am not saying it isn’t different and you don’t struggle, I am just telling you the criteria. If you were awarded MRC a supporting statement from the 1:1 is unlikely to make a difference because DWP accept DS needs care/supervision during the day.

Have you had social care assessments for DC from the disabled children’s team, and a carer’s assessment for you? Have you been in contact with HomeStart?

I've never heard of homestart, what is that please ? I can try get in contact with them. I'm also up at night because he wakes up during the night too and have to change his nappy and he wonders off and have to keep eye on him so he doesn't put things into his mouth and need to direct him to his chew toys to use for his sensory needs. He also loves banging on wall and I guide him not to do that and try to settle him back to sleep. It's such a struggle - ok I'm his mother I have to do these but doing it alone is very hard and I'm crying

My pp should say ”isn’t difficult” not ”different”.

HomeStart can provide volunteers who can support you.

If you haven't seen it before, this guide is invaluable as it tells you exactly what you need to highlight if you're needing to demonstrate night time care needs. cerebra.org.uk/download/disability-living-allowance-dla-guide/
