8 year old daughter showing "traits"

I've known since my daughter was 2 that she was different. She's such a good girl- highly conscientious, but struggles socially and pretty much lives in a world of her own.

Her teachers, up until this point, have told me that they haven't spotted any signs of autism or ADHD, however her new teacher has told me that she is spotting traits.

I'm not sure whether a diagnosis could help us at this point? She is doing well at school, she has friends, although seems to be a prime target for being left out or picked on. She has issues with sitting still for long periods however and there are some barriers around following instructions. She will also talk incessantly about a topic when people have stopped listening. It breaks my heart at times.

I am guessing that as she gets older, her challenges at school and socially could increase.

How can I help her now? Is it worth seeking a diagnosis?

Definitely go for an assessment, start the diagnostic process now, it can take a long time.

Here's an outline of the process. www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/diagnosis/pre-diagnosis/parents-and-carers

Just going through this with dd 12 - I noticed traits from aged 2 but teachers from about aged 7. I held off till last year because I was told that it'd harder to diagnose girls and more likely to get a diagnosis by secondary school.
I'd start by speaking to senco and finding out what they think. It appears to be a long process so that might help make your decision, depending on time frame in your area.
