Its all go here!!!
DS started at the Pupil Referral Unit today. Had 2 calls throughout the day from the head and teacher and new school to check they had the right boy as he had been amazing!!! He came home with biscuits he had made and 2 swimming certificates (cue bad mummy feeling cos i knew nothing about swimming so he had to use a spare kit!) HIs angelic state didnt last though and he immediately became the attention seeking pain we love once he arrived home in the taxi!!!
Letter also arrived today from CAHMS and DS is booked in on 3rd Jan for a 3 day assessment for ASD.
Phonecall also today to confirm with me that DS case is going to the statement panel on Monday and if i ring Tuesday afternoon i should be able to find out the results!!!

Hey well done Bonkerz - it's all go at your place!

Is the panel decision re: assessment or what should go in the statement?

bonkerzaboutxmas · 13/12/2007 22:15

What are you hoping for?

twocutedarlings · 14/12/2007 10:45

So pleased to hear that your finally getting some where Bonkers.

bonkerzaboutxmas · 14/12/2007 13:19

Me and head have asked for 35 hours which we know we wont get TBH but are hoping for 27+. Head has actually stated in her evidence that unless she gets 35 hours on the statement she doesnt see a future for DS in mainstream and would recommend a special school for him!!!! The evidence parovided is preatty daming TBH and I am determined to fight to get ful time support!

Well done bonkerz

Ds gets fulltime 1:1 and that translates as 25 hours funded by the LEA and the school are expected to fund the rest. I'd be surprised if your LEA agreed to pay for it all as schools are supposed to meet some of it out of their budget but good luck

bonkerzaboutxmas · 14/12/2007 13:45

thats interesting dusty. I thought the school had to provide all the statement which now makes clearer why head is pushing for 35 hours i suppose. TBH he already gets mor than 25 hours at school but the head hasnt mentioned that in her evidence!!! DS is currenty at PRU unit ful time till the statement is finalised!

The school will provide the support but the LEA will fund so much of it. Ds statement says he needs 35 hours i think (it might be 40 as they add on time for paperwork etc) and the LEA fund 25 hours of this. the school then make up the shortfall.

macwoozy · 14/12/2007 13:58

Good luck bonkerz

When ds's school first applied(preliminary request) for ds's statement they were turned down, due to their evidence showing how many hours support they had already put in place for ds. The LEA felt that the school (not the child!!)were therefore coping without the need for a statement so were turned down. Next time round they omitted this, and got the statement. The Head actually said she had shot herself in the foot, so can understand why your head wouldn't add that in her evidence.

My ds's statement states that his support is to be funded by the LEA and the school.

dustystar · 14/12/2007 14:02

Macwoozy has a point. my Mum says their LEA is always trying to do this. They are an inclusive school and provide really good support so the children acheive and the LEA then won't give a statement even with Mum telling them that the school simply cannot afford to fund that level of support long term.

I just looked at his statement and the school have to meet 5 hours out of their budget and the LEA fund an additional 25 hours support.

bonkerzaboutxmas · 14/12/2007 17:19

thanks guys. I know when the head mentioned PRU to me she said it would strengthen the case for full time support as would the exclusions she has given DS recently. She said this was the only way really to back up the fact that they cant cope in paperwork so what your saying add up IYKWIM.

Not long now and we will know....my god if we dont get full time i will BLOW!!!!!!!!!!!

It's lovely that you and he are having such positive feedback. How nice for him to feel like he is achieving and being praised for a change. Good luck. I hope you get all the hours he needs. Perhaps though if he does do well at the PRU, ie, in a smaller environment that might strenghten your case for an independent school later on.

All the best and happy christmas.

bonkerzaboutxmas · 17/12/2007 18:28

Am really nervopus. Statement panel will have made their decision today and i am due to ring tomorrow to find out what it is. Cant help thinking negatively and expecting the worst! What do i do if its not full time????????

Good luck for tomorrow bonkerz, although don't be surprised if you don't recieve full time support, the LEA are not very generous to say the least, but you can fight it.

When you recieve the proposed statement you've got a time period (I think it's something like 2 weeks but could be wrong), it'll give you the opportunity to amend the statement, but don't expect it back with your new amended version. You might disagree with the hours, or how the statement is worded, in terms of how your ds will get support. For instance, it might say that your ds will get support within a group rather than actual 1 to 1 support - (you might already know all this anyway) But just remember you have the right to disagree. Only downside is that this could prolong the time it'll take for your ds to get the completed statement, but at least your ds's school has support already in place. Good luck

bonkerzaboutxmas · 17/12/2007 22:50

thanks for that advice. I knopw what i want and wont settle for less to be honest. DS is coping very well so far at PRU unit and this highlights his need for full time support. Without a full time statement the head has said she doesnt think she can accept him back from PRU so i suppose he would remain there till something was sorted for him!

Fingers crossed anyway...who knows..maybe santa was in that panel today and will christmas early for us!!!!

Will post when i know something.
