What form of autism is entitled to dla high rate care ? Because my son is autistic and 3 years 5 months non verbal, no use of gestures, doesn't follow orders , directions. Constantly twirls spins. Is still in nappies. Isn't aware of danger. He is in his world.

Please help

I am still feeling around in the dark with this whole situation! Not knowing where to turn and not much support in my region. I know that she has big sensory issues, can’t afford a private OT and could use some help, no 1-1 here until they start nursery year at school which won’t be until 2023!

Mumsymum DD is too young for mobility, but it's worth applying for the care element.

What country are you in? In England 2 year olds in receipt of DLA are eligible for nursery funding. In England you can also apply for an EHCP - Wales, Scotland and NI have similar systems. EHCPs can include OT provision and 1:1.

I’m in N. Ireland, I am finding that there is much less for pre school age children.

Imitatingdory · 16/11/2021 10:17

Mumsymum in NI you can request a statutory assessment from 2. Have you been in contact with SENAC?

MumsyMum31 · 16/11/2021 10:45

I don’t even know what EHCP is!! 🙈

Imitatingdory · 16/11/2021 11:03

The NI equivalent of an EHCP is a Statement of SEN.

MumsyMum31 · 16/11/2021 11:41

No, but m not sure if paediatrician/ SALT/HV has referred her for that. I have an appointment with SALT in a few weeks and she will be 2 then so I will request! Thank you so much!
