DD with ASD. Mainstream secondary not working

DD now 12 struggled all through primary juniors, mostly friendship difficulties. Many more difficulties at home. School could see no problems and I got referral to camhs eventually through GP. Got asd diagnosis finally at end of yr 6 which was during first lockdown.

Yr 7 transition was great, such a relief and of course we had a bit of a school break with another lockdown Jan to March. She made friends, got in routine. Then we get to this Sept, year 8. It's been a disaster and she has fell to pieces. Barely been in school. Despite having some friends it is all too much now. Now back to normal non covid times they are moving rooms every hour and in sets.
It is looking like mainstream is not suitable for her needs. Will school help with getting an ehcp in place or is that mostly down to me? I don't know what to do next, her anxiety is at an all time high. The times she has been in school during yr 8 she has seemed fine, comes out smiling with tales of what has happened but just at brick wall stage now. All she is saying is that she hates the school, everything about it and all the teachers. I just see so many hurdles ahead and her getting more and more anxious with actually not being in school. I had hoped after the half term we'd start afresh. Anyone been in a similar situation and what happened in the long run for your DC? Senco is fantastic but everything they have/are putting in place is not working.

Don't wait for school to apply for an EHCNA. Apply yourself, IPSEA have a model letter you can use. Many schools fob parents off or delay applying, whereas if you do it you know it's done ASAP.

In the meantime if DD can't attend school, including because of her MH and additional needs, the LA have a statutory duty to provide DD with an alternative education. Write to the director of children's services at the LA requesting it. If it is refused threaten to begin Judicial Review proceedings.

If you have been discharged from CAMHS ask for a referral back.
