Present ideas for the hard-to-gift?

Am a bit stumped because I have to buy a present for a SN nearly-4 year old. It's one of those awkward situations where you can't really ask what he would want, and though I've made delicate enquiries via mutual friends they've all drawn a blank. I was hoping folk could say what they've bought for their "tricky" LOs this year and maybe I'd get inspired!

To start it off then DD1 (also nearly 4, developmentally sub 8 months) is getting:

  • a few light-up stimmy type things from Hawkins' Bazaar as stocking fillers
  • an age 3-6 grobag
  • a popcorn maker
  • nappy-friendly clothes
& under instructions, grandparents are buying
  • replacement set of best-loved board books
  • microwaveable hot teddy
  • night light on a timer so she knows when to wake up

All a bit specific to her, really. What's everyone else getting?

My ds1 is a bit easier to buy for this year, but last year he wasn't playing with anything very much and had no obsessions to work with/ watched no tv and so on. Helpful things i copied off mums on here or had brainwaves about were:

-under water bath/spa lights firebox.com do them, but i got really cheap ones from toysrus.

-talking photo album - can't remember where i got it from - googled it i think!

-clothes for his 'particular' requirements

-duvet cover set with favourite character - but do buy 2 as ds1 won't let me change the bed in his presence.

  • weighted blanket - i got it made for me in scooby doo material by a woman on ebay from tyne and wear

-set of the book scheme they use at school - he loves the familiarity

-toys that are similar to our real things iyswim - eg he has a toy car that is the same colour and make as our family car

-trampoline - asda are doing an individual one with netting for under 7s(if i recall correctly) for £50 today! i gave my boots 'trampette' to another mum i met and her ds loves it and that was about £20

Have you looked at Sensetoys.com? You might find something there. Or even RNIB which has lots of sensory stuff. Also fledglings.org has some toys but you can't buy on-line, you'd have to phone but they are VERY helpful. HTH
