Alex is 'hopefully' just a challenging little soul....described by the SENCo as 'Another bright little button'....but as you know i do have some 'niggles' about his development
i remember years ago reading a book on Child development.... and they detailed the typical development of drawing skills.
well....as you are probably aware...these descriptions go on about drawing people...and the child's score is determined by how detailed the person is that they draw.
o.k....so no allowances made there for ASD kids who like drawing amazingly detailed trains cars and planes....or in the case of Leigh....houses.
Well....Alex.....well he does draw people....with amazing attention to detail....except for he NEVER DRAWS ARMS....unless prompted....and even if prompted ....he never draws them the next time....unless reminded.
His details on the rest of the drawing are stunning...for a 5 year old...freckles,beard stubble, pupils, eyebrows and lashes, chins, legs with feet facing left and right-usually no shoes...but with 5 toes and toe nails...but no necks or arms...and only been adding bodies for a month or so.
so the reason i posted this tonight is simply that he decided to draw an owl...and he drew wings...yet never arms on people?!
Now the 'psychologist' in me says that the reason he does not draw arms is that to him they are not significant....he draws what he sees as important.
so cars (he named every car before he could speak 2-word-sentances....and recognised them simply from their wheel hubs or badges)...he will draw with tyre treads hubs and wipers and badges.....Thomas drew Fans, playstations etc....leigh drew castles, houses and cars.
so....i would be interested to hear what anyone has to say about this!!!
