SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Anyone care to join me in admitting that they blubbed at the SN school play?

I'm just back from my dd's school play - it was fantastic. Some of the children are really talented - one girl sang beautifully, 100x better than I could ever do. I laughed until I cried, and then cried some more It was wonderful, but very poignant at the same time. Seeing dd being wheeled in made me blub, but it was also fantastic to see her so happy with the rest of her classmates.

I havent seen my ds's yet its next Saturday but every year up to now ive cried........ last year he was the narrator and he looked like a cross between Dennis Norden and Val Doonican,,, on a big high stool with a clipboard wearing a white shirt, black bow tie and black trousers, i was so proud as he didnt need anyone to sign with him he could read all the words.... This year he is in secondary so he will do a sketch with his class, one with his residence and one with the whole secondary dept,,, cant wait!!

Thanks Chonky... He LOVES being on the stage and could certainly give any West End star a run for their money!! The first year he was at the Royal School he took it upon himself to join in with the choir and be a singing shepherd and then told the staff off when the music didnt start when it should have done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lottiejenkins · 07/12/2007 17:42

Sorry that should be a singing "signing" shepherd....................

Ours is not til the 19th, but is certainly an occasion for the waterproof mascara! As many of the children at DD3's school have no speech, the staff play a big part. In particular their singing is so moving. I know the teachers stay behind in the days leading up to the performance learning all the songs. They do it so beautifully, with harmonies and everything. I always feel that cos our LOs can't sing themselves, the teachers are singing for them. Makes me blub everytime. I've said it before, but special schools are so named because of the staff that work there.

I'm missing this years but sending my mum instead (phew- ds1 always looks for me and wants to come and have a cuddle) I always find his (SLD/PMLD) school events incredibly moving but also absolutely lovely and perfect (and hilariously chaotic). The only year I've hated was when he was in ms- it was like a freak show.

it happens to me every year, this year will be even more tearful as DS is now at his sisters SN school so he will be performing too.
Not sur if DH will be able to come as he is on chemo next week and won't be feeling so great and at risk of catching everything too.

Sidge · 08/12/2007 12:19

I have all this to look forward to next year

I cry at any school performance, I get so emotional. It's more poignant when it's our SN kids up there.

Onlyjoking, is there any way you can record the play for DH so he won't miss it?

onlyjoking9329 · 08/12/2007 12:21

oh yes it will be recorded

I love the chaos of it all. At this year's play the boy playing the giant (it was panto) refused to wake up - although kept looking up at every opportunity to check that he still had 100 pairs of eyes trained upon him

OJ - hope your dh can make it to the play.

I am a blubbing wreck at the drop of a hat... I nearly sobbed out loud at the end of term, when the whole school was outside and their was a piper there to send the children off who were leaving primary to go to secondary school... I was very grateful for my shades that day...

(and my child won't be leaving primary school for a few years yet!)

Just got back from the Christmas Concert at DS1's SN school, very moving indeed.

As mentioned before organised chaos and non-convention being the order of the day (we had superman, father christmas and various other characters around the manger for DS1's classes performance).

Seeing all the children enjoying themselves and all the proud parents definately brings a tear to your eye, with a laugh or two thrown in for good measure!
