Hyper behaviour

No Omega 6 in the Nordic Naturals Omega 3 I use so have ruled that out as a cause but i am now at the end of my tether trying to pinpoint the cause of my sons recent hyper behaviour which has always been extremely challenging but worse recently. The only other change I can think of is that he has started on inhalers for asthma but i can;t see them being a cause. I am very careful with what he eats and he has been given something I have banned on 2 occasions recently but they seemed to work out of his systemwithin days. Any suggestions.

Could it be just end of term tiredness - this is the longest term of the school year and even my NF child has now got ill (scarlet fever!) as I think she has been pushing herself. Or could he have a cold brewing - my ASD DS gets really hyper before symptoms come out and today he hasn't eaten at all well and has been hyper so I think yet another cold may be looming. Just some thoughts, may not be relevant?

He has just got over a really bad chest and cold i hope not. My 8 year old does get hard work at this time of the year i must admit, fingers crossed that's all it is. I must admit I am finding it hard to cope atm anyway, lots of things going wrong and my Dad had a Heart attack yesterday. Although DS1 understands and is upset, DS2 doesnt understand and DD is too young.

oh mummy2aaron I am so sorry. Is your dad ok? you must feel overwhelmed

mummy2aaron · 05/12/2007 20:38

i do really but i am so focused on the children that i am not as stressed as i could be. because of ds2 and his behaviour problems i havent really been able to come to terms with the sudden death of my Grandfather early this year which i think is probably a good thing. he is brilliant for distraction lol. dad will be ok fortunately. thanks for asking.

When ds2 first started having asthma inhalers it made him very hyper. It wore off after a couple of weeks though. It seemed to be the preventer inhaler that did it. If you do a search on it (there's also a MN thread somewhere about it) it's actually listed as a side-effect.

Ventolin is a stimulant. Im a bit a nerd for reading those patient info leaflets . Have just checked the one in DSs new puffa, and it says 'may become restless or exciteable' in the side effects. It might be worth seeing your GP and finding if there is an alternative if you suspect it might be the cause.

thanks coppertop thats great i thought i was clutching at straws but you cant be too careful with anything. i have just been offered the flu jab for him - dh is all for it but i would much rather not.
