DS1 just walked out of school and no one notice

Today DS1 age 11 and with SN walked out of school and came home (30 minuet bus ride) because he was being picked on.
This is the 3rd time he has done this and I have had to phone the school to say he was home with me, the school have not noticed once . I have made an appointment with the Senco, but DS1 has a LSA so why the heck can he just walk out when he cant cope.

The first time he did it I waited to see if they called me and when they did not by the end of the school day I called them. The second time he did it I did not tell them and they did not call me at all, I am really scared that he could come to harm on the way home, thankfully he is a very bright child and has always called me and come straight home.

I am waiting for a phone call to arrange an appointment to talk to the senco.

If i were you i'd be ringing the LEA to tell them that your ds's school has lax security and no idea what the children in the school are up to,...................I think it is absolutely terrifying that the school didnt notice AT ALL.....................

OMG thats awful

I think you should ask for the head to be in the meeting too.

macwoozy · 04/12/2007 17:20

OMG this is just terrible. I'd be furious with this.

Thank goodness he's ok. My son (ASD) did this at 7 and another mum found him an hour later wondering the streets and took him back to school. The following day she asked me if he was ok. It was the first I'd heard of it cos the school didn't bother to inform me and hadn't noticed he was missing.
I was fuming but the head really didn't care. Took him out a weeek later.

Still trying to sort out an appointment with the head. Had another chat with the senco today. /kimi wonders off to hit head against brick wall.

what on earth.... what is the LSA doing, drinking coffee and chatting about eastenders?

lottiejenkins · 07/12/2007 15:30

Havent you got a nice friendly local paper you could threaten to go to? Or you local councillor???

spacegirl · 07/12/2007 20:40

NOT GOOD.... I thought it was bad enough when my son was misplaced in nursery (found eventually locked outside in their play yard on his own (he didn't care - I DID) Three times is appalling. They were terrified that I would take it further and had meetings with me, letters etc. Cannot believe they are not taking it seriously. I would really consider taking it further.

I know it is easy to sit here and mouth off, but FFS this is unbelievable.

In your shoes I would go to the school and demand to see the head - not sure what they could possibly be doing that is more important than this.

I would make a formal complaint to the LEA demanding an investigation, explanation and assurances that it cannot happen again.

And I would also contact the local paper too. Jees, everyone is still talking baout Madeleine McCann being abducted everyday and slagging off the parents for leaving her unattended, but what about a school allowing children to be left wandering in this way? It's disgusting.

You are very lucky your child is bright and sensible and also lucky that nothing untoward happened - it is outrageous it could happen, and extra so that nobody at the school has realised the severity of the issue.
