During an epic meltdown from my 9 year old dd with ASD last night she kept saying she wanted to go home, when I told her she was already home she said no I mean heaven. This has spooked me and horrified me at the same time. Im still upset by her comment this morning or am I overreacting ??

No you’re not overreacting, I’d be upset by that too. Has she ever said anything else like this?
I hope you’re ok x

My dd used to say "I want to go home" too during meltdowns when we were actually at home around the same age. As for the heaven bit, I wouldn't dwell on it, as upsetting as it must have been to hear that. My dd did and still does say some terrible things in meltdown, wanting to die etc.

@xxlostxx thanks yes my dd says the same hence the heaven comment. She's right as rain the next minute though so it's very much in the heat of the moment! Spooked me to think maybe she's been here before !

Weird! My autistic DD used to say "I want to go home" during meltdowns at home too. All the time. Also "I want my mummy" when I was right next to her trying to calm her down!

Oh and when I ask her about it now (she's 14) she says she thinks she used to say it because of a difficulty finding the right words to describe how she was feeling.

GreatestHits that's really interesting to hear your dd say that now she's older and it makes sense. I think during a meltdown when everything is so overwhelming it's a need to feel safe. My dd is 12 now, not getting the "want to go home" so much, just the wanting to die Sad

@xxlostxx that's horrendous, your poor daughter and poor you.
