Palilalia

Finally discovered an actual name for what DS does!
Do I need to speak to the gp about this?
I thought it was just a quirk of his but now reading about it, it can be linked to asd but is also a symptom of Tourette’s.
He used to tic a fair bit when younger. It would be one thing at a time for a while but would then go away and I didn’t think that it was an issue anymore but actually there are subtle things he does like clearing his throat and making noises but I just put that down to his ways.
Just to add on… he does have asd, adhd and sensory processing disorder, I’m just debating whether I need to discuss the palilalia with the gp or is it more likely to be linked to the asd?

I just had to look this up and it seems similar to echolalia expect with the child repeating their own words rather than other peoples? Are there other differences to echolalia?

My ds (ASD) gets into ruts of repeating things over and over again, particularly if he is stressed or excited. He also seemed to have verbal tics and stuns from a young age. With ds i've always seen it as part of his ASD and sensory processing disorder but if you are concerned it is worth talking to the doctor about it.

My 5 yo son has started doing this a bit - he mainly seems to do it after long words that he's proud of, or when describing things that he really likes. It's as if he's savouring the words to appreciate them even more! I assume this isn't likely to signify a wider problem. But we are trying to mildly discourage it, without making too big a deal of it.
