Blue badge benefits?

Hi all, my son is neurodiverse. Sensory processing disorder, dyspraxia, severe speech disorder (verbal dyspraxia).

I am amazed he has now been given a blue badge!!!

Where do I start? What benefits does a blue badge bring other than the obvious parking a bit closer to where we're headed? I know I could research this all myself but this year has been so hard on us I can't bear the thought of reading through loads more admin!

Many thanks!!!

A blue badge doesn't have many other benefits unrelated to parking. Although you can apply for an exemption from congestion charges, and some councils accept proof of a blue badge as evidence of eligibility for a disabled bus pass.

If you don't have off road parking at home you can apply to the council for a disabled bay to be installed on the road. However, it would not be solely for your use, any blue badge holder can use it.

Some attractions accept a blue badge for carer's tickets and access passes, but I imagine you already claim DLA which many also accept as proof.

In our area blue badges don't have to pay in council car parks, even in non disabled bays. I think thay stated this to remove the cost incentive of parking on street for people who can manage from the car park. You can also apply for a free pass for a local toll tunnel and use public transport for free.
