SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Do you have experience of SEN funds in school meant for your child going elsewhere?

Channel 4 tonight covered the case of an ASD boy who was refused a statement and the school said they could give him help for his SEN via delegated funding (or Action Plus, or Early Years Action Plus) whatever they call it in your LEA. The charity SOS SEN are asking mums out there with similar issues to email them - you can ask to be kept confidential if you wish. They are going to use the number of emails they get to lobby the government - who are at present planning to move further and further away from money for individual kids and more towards delegated funding. On the report it suggested that schools are using the so-called SEN funding for whatever they like - including painting the netball courts! If you are interested, just send a quick email to SOS SEN at [email protected]

Yes I have just been told from the department of education as i was going to get a lawyer to fight for my child as he has had to be out of full time education due to funding. They said the secondary school can use the funding as they wish.My child has 25 hrs and is trying his best all by himself but is coming home so stressed again. He has cp plus austism but is not suitable for special school in my area as he is quite bright.Given up in all the government they seem to be disabling our children even further down.Too late for my child but please keep on fighting for other children.Barking & Dagenham the worst area for children with sen.

IPSEA have also highlighted similar problems with the whole issue of devolved funding to schools by some LEAs. The LEA are basically saying to schools, "here's some cash, you sort the problem out".

For the children who do need Statements and the legal protection that goes with it, devolved funding is nothing short of disasterous.

SEN funding needs to be ringfenced I think.
