My daughter is 8 1/2. She was referred to a speech therapist at 2 for a speech and language delay following a hearing test. She was discharged at 6 but still seemed to have difficulty following/understanding a string of instructions.
I went to see her teacher before covid last year after a severe deterioration in her behaviour at home. She has always been combative when it comes to being asked to do something, and would turn violent towards her dad and I. She was fine at school so I didn't really get anywhere and then, well, covid!
A month or so before she was due back to school after the second lockdown she outright refused to do any of the work assigned by her teacher (only 3 tasks a day) and would have a meltdown. Only now her 4 year old sister is the target. I called her speech therapist who spoke to her school and she was referred to the pediatrician last month.
She's now deteriorating at home again and one day she refused to go to school. She's a strong girl so I physically could not get her out of the house.
I managed to email the pediatrician who called me and couldn't have been more wonderful.
She told me that my daughter had scored in the significant range for ADD following the teachers assessment sheet answers.
We spoke at length about her struggles and she feels that she has maybe missed an ASD diagnosis after we met her a few years ago, however she feels it could be PDA. I have filled out the same ADD sheet as the teacher and also an ASD sheet which has been sent to the teachers.
The pediatrician has said she hopes to meet us in the summer holidays and is requesting for the new speech therapist to meet us also.
What happens now? How long should I expect this process to take? Sorry it's so long, it's been a pretty full on year on top of a difficult 6/7 years!
