DD (19 months) has her mRI tomorrow to hopefully find out a bit more about her CP. I'm so nervous - mainly about how the day will go as she's not allowed to eat after 7am and the scan's not till 2.30pm! also a bit freaked as she may need a GA if the sedation doesn't work. It's so hard seeing our precious little ones going through all this stuff that most babies and toddlers don't have to. I'll post tomorrow night to let you all know how we get on.
Any positive MRI experiences much appreciated!

Jenkey, it will be ok, the MRI staff are normally absoloutely brill. Do not wear anything magnetic, and if you put your dd in tracksuit/anything with out a zipper or poppers she might be able to do it without having to get changed. When ds had his I was also allowed in, again NO METAL.

Thank you, I hadn't thought about zips and poppers etc - does that also include poppers on her vest?

Well I would err on the side of caution any try and not to dress her in ANYTHING with metal including her vest, could you not put her in a tshirt or a vest this once. Just thought nappies, make sure they is no nappy pins. I used to clean an mri centre about 12 yrs ago and about the only metal that is allowed is wedding rings, it fluffs up watches and anything else could mean you flying through the air to be attached to the machine. Well not actually flying through the air but you get my drift.

dd had one a few weeks back. Out like a light under the GA. Another GA last week for the botox and one coming up for teeth. Sigh.
No vest poppers. Stick her in t-shirt and trousers (no zips etc)
The csary thing is the results. you want them but you don't want to hear anything you don't want to hear!

ok, so she's in leggings, t-shirt and sweater dress on top so no metal there! She had brekkie at 6.30am - and seems ok for now. I am so nervous about today that I haven't had a chance to ponder what the results might be which is probably a good thing.

good luck. I'm sure it will all go fine. Just have something easy to eat for when she comes round. She will be dopey and hungry!

thanks for the advice - the no metal advice meant she could go down in her own clothes which was good. We were really impressed by all of the staff and it was a very calm day with Heather charming everyone she met. We were blessed as the sedation worked a treat and so we escaped a GA. She slept for about 3 hours then woke up and her first words were 'mi-mi' (breastfeeding) so she had that, then went on to eat mini cheddars and the good old hospital food - chicken nuggets, beans followed by icecream! We won't get the results for a couple of weeks so I guess there's nothing more to do but wait. Thanks again for the support.

glad it went OK and she managed to escape having a GA>

I am so pleased that she was ok and so glad that she didn't have to have a GA.
Good luck with the results.
