Do I medicate for adhd?

My 9yr old dd was diagnosed with ADHD today along with a previous ASD diagnosis.
The psychiatrist was lovely and very understanding.
My dd is more inattentive than hyperactive but she often 'zones out' and has very poor concentration which myself and the dr believe could be a factor for why she is well below expected achievements in school. She has suggested medicating her during school hours to help. Does anyone have any advice or experience of how medication has helped or not helped?

My ds is 8 and was diagnosed with inattentive and hyperactive adhd at 6. We medicated straight away and honestly, the difference is night and day.

Apart from making home life less stressful, it was lovely to see his friendships become more stable, making progress at school (went from below to achieving ARE in one year) and an increase in his self esteem.

It can feel like a big decision to medicate but to us it was a no brainier. Try and read up on how the medication works. It’s a myth that it’s some sort of sedative to calm them down. It’s the complete opposite! It’s a stimulant (although there are non stimulant drugs) as it stimulates the part if the brain that’s not active enough. Our area did a parents information course after diagnosis which was really useful.

Try it. The drugs don’t stay in the system so you can stop them at any time if you’re unsure.
