Has anyone been awarded DLA without getting the supporting letter filled in?

Dc2 has recently been diagnosed with ADHD and is going though assessment for Autism. I've just filled in the forms to apply for DLA but due to circumstances haven't got the covering letter signed. Has anyone else not done it and been successful. We have the confirmation of diagnosis so it's not like we're making it up.

Yes, I have got DLA 2 or 3 times for my daughter without the letter. I sent in lots of supporting documents though eg EHCP, medical reports etc

It’s only necessary if it’s literally the only supporting evidence you have. No need to fill it in otherwise.

Do send something that mentions your child is on the pathway though.

Ok thank you everyone, I feel a bit better now. It's such a headache filling the form in I was dreading getting a no based on not having the supporting letter signed.

Yes, my son was awarded without it. I sent any supporting documentation I had from his paediatrician etc. After I sent it away I learned that ppl had been taking their claim forms to places to get help to complete it and getting the supporting letter completed so I thought he had no chance of being awarded because I completed it myself with no cover letter but he was awarded middle rate for 2 years until he turned 6. Iv just completed his renewal and again didn't get help with it but still waiting to find out the outcome.

Yes but my son is statemented and at a special school. I sent his statement plus every paediatric report I had. This seemed to suffice.

Could the school SENCO or his teacher not do the covering letter?

britespark1 · 04/07/2021 20:24

I didn’t send a supporting letter, just photocopies of all the reports. Just been awarded middle rate.

I haven't included a supporting letter and it's always gone through okay. Do sent lots of other evidence though.

Atruh567 · 06/07/2021 09:08

@britespark1 how long did you wait for the award?

My sons renewal has just been assessed & awarded without any cover letter. He has been awarded higher rate care & low rate mobility. This is his 2nd award that's been granted without a cover letter. I just included photo copy's of his last paediatrician report, his asn school placement letter etc

@Atruh567 it took about 6 weeks and they back dated the payments to when my form was officially received.

Atruh567 · 06/07/2021 14:22

Can anyone remind me if you usually get the payment in the bank before the reward letter arrives?

Yeah I received the award letter on Saturday morning & the payment was in the bank the Monday morning. Last time round I received the payment a few days before the letter though.
Pixie2015 · 06/07/2021 21:06

Yes - sent EHCP and hospital letters

@britespark1
I've just had confirmation that my son qualifies but was told it will be backdated from the day they sent the forms which was in may id double check the dates on when they sent you the claim as this is where it's meant to be backdated from x

Will do thank you!
