Covered; I feel like I've been run over by a truck. DS1 wasn't being aggressive just very squashy, squeezy, pinching bitey. Am going to try to address the cause (ie buy a weighted blanket for him to see if that gives him the pressure he's craving) but in the meantime (they're 100 quid!) I was wondering whether anyone has found a really relaxing bath product? I'm feeling the need for something at the end f the day.

BTW does anyone else's child chin jut? DS1 manages to scissor my face between his chin and shoulder. It is sooo painful and I can't move when he does it!

Yurt - we've got a weighted blanket my Mum made for DS2 that he's never used - just throws it on the floor! Do you want it? It's DS2-size, so might be a bit small for DS1, but you're welcome to give it a try if you like. It's just taking up cupboard space here.
DS2 doesn't chin jut himself but LOVES me doing it to him! So it may only be a matter of time...

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 13:44

oh sphil that is so sweet of you. But are you sure? That's what ds1 used to do with his weighted blanket (he had a mini one) and I know that now he would be crawling under it at every opportunity (I got hold of a laptray with beanbag underneath recently and he was sitting with that on his head!) DS2 may crave it one day.....

oh had being the word- I passed it on and now wish I hadn't!

No chin jutting here, but poor ds2 9why is it always him? ) has ahd to go to school today with scratch amrks dwn his face and bite amrks over his bum after a weekend of it. Hate, hate, ahte it when that happens. have e-mailed the child careres project as I think ds2 needs support now, but waiitng for a reply.

DS1 stands on his head for the rpessure he craves.

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 14:03

Luckily it was me on the receiving end (ds1 very rarely goes for ds2, never for ds3). My neck looks as if I have had a night of passion with dh (not!)

I've got a gouge out of my cheek from an almighty pinching session from DS4 this week and a lump on the back of my head where he wacked me with abook. DS4 does the chin thing on the top of my head, it hurts alot!

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 14:51

ow - the top of the head sounds painful!

We all need protective suits.....

Actually sod getting a weighted blanket for him, I think I'm going to get one to drape myself in (armour )

Oh yurt!
I just steal some bedtime/lavender baby bath - it smells nice but I doubt if competes with a more luxious product.
Oh dear - I thought it was just my son did this pointy chin hug thing! (he goes for the hollow in my neck!) Actually I make such a fuss (it makes me gag!) I think he has finally noticed I don't like it! I was advised to keep a pillow handy for extra padding but I haven't had a lot of protection success with this method. Ds does enjoys the inclusion of a bean cushion to our hugs!
Ds has finally learnt to stroke gently and seems to be on a one child mission to show all his touch defensive classmates his new skill!

Peachy · 19/11/2007 15:49

jofeb on here knows a bit about aromatherapy I think (she's my Doula), but lavender and chamomile added to bath water should do it if he'll tolerate the new smell. Yer ack-chew-all holland and barratt (or neals yard if youre being posh!) oils, rather than the synthetic fragrances.

DS2 is beinga ccepted for young carers- yay! 6 month wait but it entitles him to counsellinga s well as the activities which is a bit . Shame SS didnt tell me and I had to find via a google......

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 15:53

the bath's for me peachy (!) not ds1 - he gets hydro at school so he's OK

You don't expect ss to tell you anything surely

magso - ow ow ow- at the back of the neck. Pointy chin is mentioned in Welcome to Schmolland.

Peachy · 19/11/2007 16:03

Go for the lvneder then LOL- it got me through labout, will get you through ds1's little cuddles LOL!

As for SS- I was so in awe of actually seeing a social worker, I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd floated upwards in misty apparitions LOl, which frankly may as well be their sole occupation for all teh use they are. If they work really hard at it, they might even get promotion to the LEA.

Lush has some nice relaxing products atm you know, is there one near you?

mymatemax · 19/11/2007 16:24

Must be something in the air at the moment. DS2 who was a calm passive little thing has turned in to a kicking, punching, pinching screaming monster lately.
I can't get him out of the house unless its part of his daily routine, on Saturday dh had man flu so I was forced to take ds2 with me to the shops, he kicked & punched & pinched me while I was trying to get his splints & shoes on. The tops of my arms are black & blue.

Today his teacher told me that he was taken inside at break time for kicking a nine yr old (he's5) all the poor boy did was ask him a question.

I hope its not the start of things to come.

mymatemax · 19/11/2007 16:27

As for the relaxing bath product - A BIG glass of red wine while soaking.

dustystar · 19/11/2007 16:36

DS has just added more bruises to the ones I already had from the last time he attacked me Once he's ine bed I'm going to try MMM's treatment of a hot bath and a glass of wine

staryeyed · 19/11/2007 18:21

I completely sympathise. My D.s is only 2 and a half and he regularly beats me up and it hurts. It sounds mad but he is so strong. He always pulls my hair and tries to gauge my eyes out. He digs his chin into my head and rubs his head all over mine and squeezes my head. Im dreading it later on when he's bigger I already feel beaten up. My Gran thinks its hilarious and laughs whenever he does which encourages him more. Thank god she's gone back home. My partner jokes that I get beaten up by a 2 year old. He's not being aggressive so I cant tell him off.

Massaging has helped and squeezing him when he starts, but I think Im rewarding the behaviour.

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 19:12

Yep squeezing can reward- which is a problem because the only way I can block ds1 is to grab his wrists and try and move them away- which he loves- wrists being squeezed- fantastic.

Hot bath and red wine is a great idea, but I'm drinking too much I think now

OP posts:
mymatemax · 19/11/2007 20:10

ds2 is the opposite, he loves the freedom of no clothes, as soon as his clothes are off he is spinning, jumping (sort of in his CP sort of way),laughing & yelling
He kicks out when we try to contain him or put clothes on him. Once he's dressed he's reasonably calm.

As for the wine, Ikwym about too much, but needs must

Pixel · 19/11/2007 20:34

Oh ds is the same, it's awful! He does this thing where he puts his hands or feet behind my knee and then pushes my shin backwards so it squeezes him. It's sooo painful and he's strong so it's hard to stop him. My shins are all bruised and I've actually been frightened a couple of times that he would dislocate my knee although I don't know if that's actually likely. I agree that squeezing is a reward because I had to ask his teacher to stop giving squeezes as it was making him worse. We've been wondering about a weighted blanket as well.
One thing we have found useful, ds was always getting behind the cushions on the settee (part of the settee, not decorative ones iyswim) because it was a tight little space (and in the hope that someone would sit down and give him a good squash!) They always ended up on the floor and there was never anywhere to sit down. We bought him a big beanbag for his birthday and it was an instant success! He hasn't got behind the cushions since so it must satisfy him in some way.

yurt1 · 19/11/2007 20:52

ds1 gets behind the sofa cushions as well- then forces someone to sit on him. He has a futon with 2 mattresses (he had a proper bed but refused to sleep in it) ans I've found him lying under the futon mattresses in the past as well.

I worry about ds1 breaking my neck- which is probably less likely than a dislocated knee so I know what you mean

And dressing a kicking child is hard isn't it

OP posts:
sphil · 19/11/2007 23:51

Yurt - have e-mailed you.

Peachy · 20/11/2007 09:42

My nephew does the sofa thing as well, the entire family are pretty sure he's AS but nobody wants to raise it- BIL would just get angry and sister is blanking the possibility. Everyone says how much like ds1 he is at that age, abeit minus the temper- will be interestinga s he had a baby brother last week, and I found 9as lots do apaprently) that seeing an NT baby grow up amkes the differences mroe obvious- assuming baby NT anyway. But he starts school soona s well so we shall see.

have the dressing a kicking child whing with ds3, great fun whilst trying to protect bump...

The other thing they both did / do, is they sit on your lap and suddenly bounce up... smashing your jaw with their head. that bloody hurts.

HairyMaclary · 20/11/2007 10:00

I meant to mention yesterday when I read this thread - have you tried arnica? If you take the tablets it seems to help all bruises, and you can always rub the cream or ointment on the really bad bruises as well. It's a homeopathic remedy but available from Boots. It's often recommended after childbirth, but I find it useful at all times!!

magso · 20/11/2007 10:25

Oh peachy! We are just getting past the shoe faze - I insist he tries himself which concentrates his mind on foot control at least. Ds still does that sudden head bounce under the chin thing - it really hurts especially if tongue is in the way when teeth slam shut!
