i am due to see the paed on tuesday re dd, they want an update to see if her dx is to be SPD or ASD.

now her speech has come on really good, she CAN talk, a lot of the time she chooses not to and she repeats things you tell her quite a bit and she copies accents eg if she wants to watch a specific tv programme she will ask for it in the accent of the charachter, she also repeats phrases from nursery such as "milk or water" when she,s stressed or she starts telling imaginery children to shush and be quiet if they want a story.

the ican team think there is no problem with her speech, she doesnt often repeat things at nursery and from what they say she is chatty, this is a different dd from the one i know.
obviously they have sent their report to the paed, and im starting to feel like im imagining things, but im NOT!!!!!!!!

i dont really know what im going to say on tuesday or if the paed will listen, i dont really know what im asking for on here!!!!!

just wondered if anyone else has had this and how you got your point across.

TIA

Jenk ~ thing is spd is part of the autistic spectrum.

i know bh and thats whats confusing me, ICAN dont seem to think she displays any SPD -they say they dont see her repeating things and that she is chatty, they do keep banging on about how they usually only work with "severe language problems" and they say that dd is too expressive in her language for them to work with her.

its very confusing.

I would have hoped that the paed would talk to and observe your DD and form his own opinion, rather than just taking what nursery say as gospel.

as an aside, DS has finally got his NHS SALT appointment on Tuesday, so I'm going to ask about referral to an Ican nursery, fingers crossed.

It's great that your dd has done so well since being at the Ican nursery, I bet you're chuffed.

I would agree with TC in that in order to get a diagnosis, several opinions would be taken into account, so not just the nursery.

Jenk, this is rather odd. You (very observantly) have noted aspects of your child's communication that are a little quirky and yet the ICAN staff don't note the same things in school.

Now that is good and I would believe them as ICAN staff a trained to a higher level than your average teacher/nursery nurse.

I'm afraid that I wouldn't really expect a paed. to konw anyone terribly useful about communication issues, but I would recommend that you write (pref. type) out the quirky things that you note (with concrete examples as you have here0 and pass this on in your meeting with him/her.

Good luck.

Sorry Jenk, I didn't mean to sound so flippant, by saying you must be chuffed with her progress when you're obviously concerned for her. I know you worry about your dd and only want what's right. Good luck
