Bilateral ventriculomegaly

Hi everyone,

I know this post is from a while ago now, but I just stumbled across it while searching on Google. I had a scan at a private clinic yesterday (I'm 27 weeks) so that my mum and dad could see the baby. Unfortunately this idyllic scenario of them seeing their first grandchild was crushed when the sonographer informed us there was fluid on the baby's brain that concerned them. The notes I received after said bilateral ventriculomegaly. We were not given any measurements of any further information as they said it was not a diagnostic scan. All we were told was, it could be from an infection but you need to speak to the hospital.
I'm awaiting a phone call from the hospital now, but I just can't control the panic I'm experiencing. I honestly feel like my world has fallen apart.
Any advice or positive stories would be so helpful right now!
Thank you ❤️

So sorry you've received this news, it sounds like a very worrying and uncertain time for you and your family Flowers

Maybe ask Mumsnet HQ to move this topic to the Antenatal Tests board as you might get more responses there, or you could just cross post this there yourself. It's under the 'Becoming a parent' section. All the best for you and baby x

Hi I had this show up at 20 weeks. My consultant said it went in thirds... for one third of babies this would resolve by itself, for one third it would stay the same and for the final third it would sadly worsen. We were in the second third and my beautiful DD was born earlier this year.

She recently had a shunt fitted to help drain the fluid. She has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. The op was scary, but she has met every milestone so far. Although she may be delayed in future, I still see a bright future ahead.

For the second half of my pregnancy I was incredibly anxious and needed counselling go get through it (I will never enjoy an ultrasound...) but thankfully that faded once my LO arrived. I feared the worst, and the 'consider your options' conversation made it worse. You will understandably worry, but there are many many likely positive outcomes.
