I am having a nightmare with DS2 in the toddler group we go to with my DD too and the very disapproving and tutting mums at his regular and random acts of violence. Any alternative venues or strategies?

Do you get portage? Your portage worker might be able to advise you on local SN groups - my lovely portage worker actually took me along to one an introduced me. Failing that then your health visitor or child development centre might also know depending how on the ball she is. If you can find a SN group that would be better and less stressful for you. Most areas have them I think.

No I don't get portage but am going to have it for a one off 6 sessions. Have a SN health visitor so I will ask them. Thanks. Hopefully one exists as I could do with a bit of empathy rather than judgement if you know what I mean.

Hiya spacegirl

What's his SN? because most of the groups here (I'm in Caerleon btw) are seemingly run by the various dx groups- eg there's an ASD one in Newport etc.

Have been totally where you are with the toddler group and you have my sympathies.

If you do want a chat anytime let me know, I have 2 SN ds's (ASD's) but another on the way in Amrch so will need to think abojut groups I guess.... and trust me, your LO ain't gonna shock me with his behaviours, oh no.

He has a social communication language delay and is 3 and 1/2 ish (maybe asd in long process of dx)? There doesn't seem to be a toddler group here (other than a coffee morning with a really nice sn health visitor). Just need to be able to go to a place where it doesn't matter if he doesn't say sorry and I don't feel like the crappest parent in the world. Thing is he just pootles around quietly and contently 80% of the time apart from toddlers and parties. Is every one from Newport and does it matter if my ds isn't diagnosed?

Ta for the tips would like to hear more.

Sounds like your ds is very like my 4.5 year old- severe language delay with probable ASD! Been sruck in the DX process for ages, just had to go back to the beginning as the SALT couldn't decide on a dx. I also have a NT 6 year old and an almost 8 year old with SPD and AS / HFA.

We have a NAS flyer each term which covers available resources locally, its sent by a lady at the NAS in South Wales called helen Davies (or davis- cant remember), if you google her (NAS Chepstow) she's brilliant and will give you all the contact details for her equivalent in cardiff (I am assuming Cardiff gets a dedicated worker).

Peachy Thanks for the info. I can't find the person on the NAS site. Should I just call NAS? Do they help if he is not dx? Sorry for all the questions. For a city Cardiff seems to be fairly low key on provision.
