Can people offer thoughts on what to do with conflicting opinions from behavioural optometrist and orthoptics??

I thought my son had eye tracking issues, and optometrist agreed. So we went to a behavioural optometrist and she said yes he did and they were quite marked. She said we needed retained reflexes treatment first and recommended a VERY expensive private clinic... we didn't do that, but did go to Bob Allan's clinic and saw someone called Moni. She said yes he had the retained reflexes and advised spinal skin brushing. I'm a bit dubious about it but trying to do it.

But then we got an appointment with NHS Orthoptics at Royal Berks and they said no, their tests so no problems with tracking etc etc and he's fine. They did think it was odd he constantly tilted his head. They are going to test for astigmatism, as optometrist didn't and they wonder if that's it.

He can read, in fact he's good at it but he HATES it and says it makes him feel 'yuck' that his eyes 'zoom all over the page' etc etc. He hides, cries etc if he has to read.

So... asking if anyone has done the 'spine brushing' and whether it was useful and also if people have had these conflicting diagnoses and what they did. And just any general thoughts... am just a bit confused now.

No idea about spine brushing. You could take a look at dyslexia websites about visual difficulties

This sounds very similar to my son. Specsavers etc said he way fine. We took him to Alexander Krobrin in potters bar (private) and it showed up that he had lots of problems with tracking and crossing the midline. They gave him glasses that worked wonders and they the prescription was turned down every 6 months until he didn’t needs them anymore. I would Highly recommend.
We also did Bob Allen retained reflexes which helped. He noticed his eyes couldn’t cross the midline and the brushing etc helped. I know it’s hard to believe but retained reflexes are recognised by occupational therapists. Now I realise it’s all connected
