Hi everyone,
If you're reading this then most likely you are/know someone that was like me - a Mum with a special needs child struggling in mainstream education!
If you are then I can help!
My boy was in reception when I pulled him out of mainstream education and started an at home programme to help his social interaction (it can be done within school too). He is being assessed for Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia, and the rest... But essentially he struggles with social communication/interaction, anxiety and is a good couple of years 'behind' his peers academically.
We removed him from school because it was too much for him to cope with, and whilst fighting for an EHCP for him to get into a more suitable school environment, we found an at home programme to help him with his social language & interaction.
It was called the Social Use of Language Programme, by Doctor Wendy Rinaldi.
It's a family programme (can be used in school too) with very clearly laid out instructions, with games, stories and activities that everyone in your home can get involved in. All 3 of our kids joined in, our 8 and 2 year old loved it just as much as our SEN son :) Very flexible and enjoyable, but most importantly, it really escalated our son's progression socially and emotionally - helping him understand both simple and complex situations that he could never have grasped without it. (e.g eye contact, sharing, thinking and talking about the same things as others etc.)
I can't express enough how much it helped us and how much of the emotional weight it took off us. We felt so settled and secure in his development for the first time in his life doing it, please if any of this resonates with you PLEASE look into it;
Contact: [email protected] , the creator of the programme for any questions! She is amazing and is there every step of the way.
She also has a youtube channel that you can take a look at to get a feel of what I'm talking about:
If you do, then please post in here too how you're getting on! I'd love to know and wish you and your little ones all the best
