Triploidy

Hi
I hope you don't mind me posting on this board, I'm just wondering if any of you parents out there have any knowledge or experience of triploidy and the likelihood of reoccurence?

My husband and I went to our consultant follow up appointment this morning after my Missed miscarriage at 20 weeks, two months ago. We found out our baby was a girl and the autopsy points to a chromosonal abnormality called Triploidy. The pathologist is fairly confident that this extra set were from the maternal side. The consultant was thorough going through the report and said that any further pregnancies would probably be classed as high risk and we would be talked through the chromosonal tests available. It was at this point that I told him I was already pregnant. I have done a bit of research and it appears that the likelihood of this abnormality recurring is no higher for me than for the general population so I'm hoping the consultant care is an acknowledgement of what has happened rather than something to get really worried about?? Does anyone have any experience of Triploidy and its' likely reoccurence if it's happened in a previous pregnancy? Many thanks.

I gave birth to my little girl at 24 weeks and I have just received news from my consultant that my little girl had triploidy also. Myself and my husband were offered genetic tests as soon as I had my baby and will receive these results next week.

We have been told that whatever the results of these tests, we will have to see a genetic councillor. If the tests come back as either my husband or myself have chromosome abnormalities then we will have to have IVF, if they come back clear then the genetic councillor will advise us of the chance of this reoccurring.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I was told that if I get pregnant naturally then I should have a CSV or CVS (?) test at 10 weeks when they will test the chromosomes from the placenta - I would enquiry about this? Good luck - I am still devastated by loosing my little girl 2 months ago.

Miskin

Apologises for not responding earlier - I have only just spotted your reply. So sorry to hear about your little girl. Have you had the results of your blood tests back yet? We had ours and they were fine (no abnormalities). I hope yours were too.

With regards to the new pregnancy I have an appointment with the consultant next week (when i will be 10 wks and 3 days). I understand that I will be having a urine test, blood test and scan which I guess if it shows anything up will then led to the possibility of CVS. My husband and I paid for a private reassurance scan last week where our bean was measuring spot on for the dates. This was in itself reassuring because or triploidy affected little girl was 9 days behind the LMP dates right from the very start.

So sorry again to hear of your loss but thanks so much for your reply.
