I am looking for some advice, I have a 11 year old daughter who has been in the same school since reception, I have noticed issues with her since she was 3, the school have dragged there feet and have only recently got Ed psych involved they did there final report on Monday, awaiting report, but my problem is the school have only just informed me she has been on the sen register for 3 years I have never met any senco ect, I know she has dyslexia and working memory problems, she is currently working at a year 2 level despite SOME extra support from school, im getting frustrated as September she starts hight school and is so far behind I don't know how she will cope.

Hello OP--

Ok. This is going to be a long message but brace yourself.

--- Does your daughter have an EHCP? If not, apply for an ERSA ASAP as she is going to secondary and will need all the support she can get.
--- ask the Local Authority to get her assessed by a Speech and Language therapist and an Occupational Therapist.
---Better yet, if you can get Tribunal experts (therapists who will assess and write quantified provision for your daughter) that's even better! But most will be fully booked by now but you may be in luck!
---Do you get DLA? If you get DLA, you can the money to get private support for your DD (e.g., tutoring, OT, SLT etc).
--- look up and contact SOSSEN and IPSEA to get all the information about EHCP, ERSA's and getting support for your DD. They are amazing.
--- is she going to a state secondary? Take a look at Dyslexic/Dyspraxic specialist schools, you may like them and it also gives you on some idea what kind of support you want for your child.

You can apply for an ERSA yourself. You don't need school to do it. I don't understand why my previous posts has underlines.... sorry about that.

Please take this advice with you to the grave.

"Do not rely on the school to help/support your child". Many times I've seen this, parents have so much power. School have XYZ thousands of kids to worry about. Which does not make it an excuse that they haven't supported your daughter until now. But that's the reality.

Unfortunately the school have next to no contact with me, they never inform Me of anything, I requested all the school records a few weeks ago just so I could see what they where actully doing with her, she has recently been seen by speech and language and the school said she has no issues, I have just applied for the from.for dla as once again I didn't know I was able to apply for her, I am literally clueless and school is zero help! Thankyounl for your advice

That sounds good OP. Try and also get an assessment from an Occupational Therapist. The EP should recommend that she has tutoring from a teacher who is Dyslexic trained. This will help her enormously

Ok, can I still apply for her to be assessed my self evan though it's already going through school?

I agree with previous suggestions. Please donot rely on school, they only raise concern regarding a child if he/she is disruptive to class routine or has problematic behaviours otherwise- any child with SEN who is not causing problem for school is ignored.

2ndry school is a problem in its own. Please get as much as support you can if you need to pay for reports. You must apply for an EHCP now. I wish you all the best

I'll will apply for the EHCP.. I think it's called EHCNA (?) for an emergency request for an annual review for secondary. School may take days/weeks to get going to apply for one. Look at how long it took them to get the support for your DD. Don't waste anytime.

I agree with applying for any EHCNA yourself now. IPSEA have a model letter you can use.

Get in contact with the SENCO at the secondary she will be attending.

The Cerebra guide is helpful when completing the DLA form.

Secular it is an EHCNA. ERSA is your LA's form to fill in, although they can't insist you use that form to request a needs assessment.
