2yo not talking

Looking for advice from anyone who may have experienced something similar.
2 year old ds still isn't talking. He has hit his other milestones such as walking/fine motor skills ect. When he was 12 months he started saying 'dada' and about 6 months ago started to say 'nanny' and 'where gone' but now has stopped saying these things.
He has been referred to paediatrics but now I'm worrying about other things and don't know if it's just because I'm looking for the issues now. For example he hits and throws things at people a lot, if I tell him off he either stares at me blankly or laughs. He also won't really sit and play with toys.
Has anyone had similar experiences and it just turned out to be a speech delay? Or if it turned out to be something else, what was it?

Hi Summer, it’s so easy to worry and think about the possible worst case scenario but you’re doing the best thing and getting paediatrics involved so your DS can be properly assessed.

My son is 4, he is completely non-verbal and has been diagnosed as autistic. We had our concerns from him being 12-18 months and he had a LOT of ASD traits. In my experience the things you’ve mentioned could be traits of autism and my son did have a couple BUT but could really easily just be his personality or a phase.

I read so much online when I was worrying about my DS and if he would ever speak, and I came across a lot of stories from parents whose children had speech delays but did speak in the end so 100% that does happen.

My DS hasn’t spoken, but we are learning to communicate with him in other ways. Before his diagnosis we were so so worried to think our baby might have additional needs, but he’s a happy healthy gorgeous little boy and it’s hard at times but we’re happy and making things work. Keep pushing for the referrals and assessments and speech and language therapy etc to get to the bottom of what your DS needs.

Big hugs xxx
