EHC needs assessment evidence

Hello. My son is awaiting diagnosis for ADHD. The consultant has reviewed his screening forms and lots of information shared by school and he is almost certain he will receive a diagnosis. (This has been going on for 2 years and seems to be going round in circles).

Whilst there have been many adaptations made at school my son is not reaching his potential due to the difficulty he has in concentration/ focus.

We have an ed psyc appointment in a couple of months. We have recently agreed a targeted learning plan. Both of these I know will support any future request for an EHC needs assessment.

School have indicated that they will not be looking to support this application until several reviews of the learning plan targets/ medical information being received.

However, given that this his condition has already had negative impact on his achievement I would be looking to apply for an EHC plan sooner if we do not see progress.

I need to know what other evidence I can put forward to support this request.

So far I have school referral forms describing behaviours and challenges.
I have requested a copy of the consultant letter to the school outlining issues and indicating probable diagnosis.
I will soon have the Ed Psyc report.

What else could I collate to support my application? Any information would be gratefully received. Thank you 😊

A SAR will help you gather evidence. Evidence of support already in place or previously tried. Copies of school reports. Emails between you and school. Home school communication book. You don't need to wait for the EP assessment, one is part of EHCNA. Many schools perpetuate the myth, either intentionally or through ignorance, 2 cycles of assess/plan/do/review is needed.

For a needs assessment the only threshold is has or may have SEN and may need SEN provision to be made via an EHCP. With a high level of support already if DS isn't making progress - not just academically but socially and emotionally too you have a case.
