You can apply for an EHCNA yourself, you don't have to wait for the secondary school to apply.

The only test for a needs assessment is a) has or may have SEN and, b) may need SEN provision to be made via an EHCP.

What provision is included differs from child to child depending on their individual needs.

The benefits of an EHCP are it legally secures the support for the pupil, which can be enforced if necessary. An EHCP can provide ongoing SEN provision until 25y/o that may not otherwise be accessible e.g. SALT and OT.

For mainstream schools it helps with admission to schools a pupil wouldn't otherwise get a place at under the normal admission criteria. If a special school or resource provision is needed it is unusual to be admitted without an EHCP.

Thank you. What is SALT?

Hi everyone,
I am a bite disappointed and confused and sad that the Local authority can neglect my child with autism in high needs and offer me an EHCP with 6 hours a year of 1-1 speech and language therapy (my child has no speech) and also tried to name a mainstream school for him and refused the special school i requested.

OP, SALT is speech and language therapy.

autismfather you would be best starting your own thread.

Thanks.

A friend has just fostered a teenage girl who has recently been assessed for, and given, an EHCP.

My friend knows nothing about EHCP's, so is interested to learn what difference this will make to her foster daughter's education and what school are meant to be doing.

IPSEA and SOSSEN have brilliant information on their websites and both have advice lines too.

If the EHCP has already been finalised the school should be providing whatever provision is in section F.
