Got the SALT report today.

Am 'happy' to say that i now have 'in black & white' cofirmation that he is likely to be ASPERGERS.
I am relieved that i now have something to show people to prove that he has genuine difficulties that he cannot control.

Here reprt ended with this:

CONCLUSIONS

LEIGH is showing traits in the 3 areas of the triad of impairment associated with asperger's syndrome.the language assessment results suggest that he is able in this area. However he does not understand implied meaning-so takes things literally and cannot guess what he is expected to do.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1)That school use the usual strategies for helping a child with ASPERGER's SYNDROME eg Social Stories,a visual timetable and language jigs.
2)Contact SALT for information and ideas dealing with specific social communication issues that may arise

soooooooooooo!

Will things change at school? Will he still have to be verbally given homework as he is now...or can i now start requesting things get done in the way he will manage better....as though a diagnosis has not been made yet....she is specifically saying they treat him as a child with AS

he is being observered by the Paed on 29th Nov...and i expect to then be asked to complete the DISCO assessment (probably jan/feb) ....so part of me wants to wait till after the 29th...so that the paed sees him as he is......i feel awful though that i now have the means to confidently request some changes ....but on the other hand feel tempted to leave well alone....as i expect by then the christmas preps will be full underway and that will mean lots of broken routines etc....so i'm quite glad really she will be seeing him then!

everytime i post in this way i am conscious that anyone reading it will be shocked that i actually ant the 'difficulties' to be visable etc....and that i am prepared to 'sit back' ....let him suffer....just to 'prove a point'.....it's just with Leigh this has been a 2 year battle to get recognition for his needs.....i want to try alternitive therapies too....but agin feel trapped whilst waiting for the 'LABEL'!!!!

I'm not shocked- there comes a time when you need the diagnosis - much easier if difficulties are recognised. So congratulations!

Not shocked at all Mrs F. Agree, it is much easier if Leigh's difficulties are recognised. Good luck with it all, Mrs F

Hurray, MrsF! You finally got it in writing.

I understand why you'd want the AS behaviours to show. You need that dx and so you need Leigh's problems and difficulties to be recognised. At the same time you don't want the school to start getting too complacent about any improvements in behaviour and then recommending that Leigh doesn't need all the help that he'd otherwise get.

Good luck. xxx

Really happy for . That may sound weird but you know what I mean. I know how long you have wanted this to happen and to put your mind at rest that you are not going mad. Hopefully Mrs F it will open doors for ds and that's all that matters really is that he will get the help he needs. Are you applying for a statement?

One more question if you don't mind me asking:-
So does that mean that SALT's can sort of diagnose then?

You've had a long wait for your dx. So pleased for you, now the school must recognise his needs, and could they now start the statementing process with you?
