Bouncy slide fun -Not!

Back in July ds had a go on one of those inflatable slides and was brilliant, throwing himself down fearlessly and running back up the steps. He'd had 10 goes before we managed to catch him and then a massive tantrum because he didn't want to stop.

So..when we saw one today and he got all excited bouncing up and down in his buggy I thought 'why not?' Well up he went, like greased lightening, and up he stayed. He wasn't scared to come down, just enjoying bouncing along the top like it was a bouncy castle and laughing his head off. Various children volunteered to help him down but he was having none of it. I could hear tutting going on behind me and comments about him being very small to be up there.

Eventually the young lad in charge said he'd go up. I explained that he had autism but wasn't afraid so he could just drop him over the side and he'd be fine. He obviously had no clue what I meant and spent several minutes trying to talk to ds as he bounced up and down, then gave up. By now the amount of children waiting at the bottom was building up and a crowd of spectators was forming. I knew there was nothing else for it so up I went. I dread to think what my bottom looked like as I struggled up!

Now for the really embarrassing bit. As I dropped ds down the slide a huge cheer went up! Oh the shame. Ds of course was completely oblivious!

Kids, don't ya just luv 'em!!

So did you slide down after him or did you stick to the steps?

jamiesam · 29/10/2004 22:32

I know it's been said before, but so eloquent.

Have you tried climbing up any of the play barn/kiddie pub type equipment, then coming down with ds - I've done that quite a bit with my 3 yr old ds - he's just a coward but as he takes after me I can't really criticise...
And some of those slides are quite a lot of fun - I always shout louder than he does!!!

I was too embarrassed to come down the slide so I just sort of wriggled down the steps in an undignified way. Probably should have just slid down and got it over with!

I've been down slides with him before but not with such a large audience!
