I rang our local Harvester restuarant yestoday to ask if they could reserve a table for the 3 of us, I explained that my daughter uses an electric wheelchair and the waitress informed me that they dont reserve tables on a sunday. She apologised but told me they wernt very busy anyway.
On arriving at the Harvester it had become quite busy but she did say she'd saved us a table anyway. Unfortunatly i then had to explain to her that my daughters chair would'nt fit under that table because it had a wooden ledge under it and because my girl has a high CAPS 2 seating system she wouldnt get her legs under.
The lady was very helpful and explained that the four 'ladies' on a more suitable table had just sat down and she'd ask if they would mind moving tables.[all in full view of us we could see them look over at my girl sat in her chair]
THEY FLATLY REFUSED
Was i being unreasonable to expect a ;little understanding on their part? there was the other table available. These 'ladies' were smartly dressed 25-30 yr olds. we were sooo embarrassed and my daughter couldnt understand why they wouldnt help .
I found myself explaining to her about manners, empathy and how although some young ladies appear beautiful on the outside they are not on the inside. Doesnt give me much hope for her future independant living [shes 18]. i was so upset by their attitude.
What do you think mums? how would you have felt in the same situation??
