AIBU to have no headspace for work today

I work in a big hospital, in an administrative capacity for senior non clinical management so nothing to do with patient data. This morning my husband and I (we both work here) attended a consultant paeds appointment with my DS for an assessment which culminated in a diagnosis of autism. Although we were aware he wasn't quite right and had some issues holding him back, this is obviously a complete bombshell which is going to change our family life and the way that we parent going forward. I had to make up the time for the appointment, my DH was granted parental leave but AIBU to just not be in the right headspace for work (came straight back to my office).

YANBU I’m sorry this is going on for you and that I can’t help more. If your boss won’t let you just leave on parental leave I can only suggest just getting through the day as best as possible. Unmumsnety hugs to you, that’s a tough day to deal with and understandably you need some time and space to process this

Thank you

I don't even feel upset, I feel more empty

I think that’s understandable, it’s a big thing to absorb. I can’t empathise from a personal perspective but I can from a professional point of view. You could try the SEND board here which I believe is very helpful and supportive but it sounds like this has come as a shock and you will need time to process this. That is completely normal and understandable.

It has made me immediately see his day to day interactions differently
